The whole work „Gay Sex“ try's to explore the concept of shock in the art world and its actual usage. It questions contemporary art works that polarized worldwide because of their contradictory content and reinterprets them all under one theme to ask whether society can still be shocked and surprised by art today. Can artists still provoke with their works in a time where we are getting more used than ever of seeing disturbing material on the internet, murder on the news or terror on television on a daily basis. „Gay Sex“ analyses art pieces that used to gain a lot of attention for their rather unconventional content and gives them a new context to question the formula shock and its usage. By reinterpreting contemporary art pieces like „Piss Christ“, „Tomato Soup“ or „Balloon Dog“ the series trys to use different applications of Shock to combine them all and focus on one theme that is still seen controversial in many countries. Visually not really clear, the series at first might not make sense as a series. But by knowing the titles like „Piss Rose“ or „Fisting lube“ and the series name the whole body of work is starting to make sense. Every picture tells its own story, is only connected by its main theme and can also be seen individually.
